Peaks Island Wedding

Wedding Peaks Island style! It was humid and hot, but that was the case pretty much all over the East coast on Saturday, July 21, 2013. So, if you have to be somewhere in the sweltering conditions, what better place than along the open Atlantic Ocean, with Amy and Jeff, getting ready to celebrate their wedding day on picture-prefect Peaks Island, Maine, with us along, of course, as their wedding photographers.  We love weddings, and we love being Peaks Island Maine wedding photographers especially well!

Have you ever been to Peaks Island, Maine?  It’s just a little piece of paradise about 15 minutes by Casco Bay Lines Ferry from Portland. Fifteen minutes that can place you worlds away, especially when you step off the beaten path just a bit.  And as you get off the ferry, the Inn on Peaks Island is a quick walk up the hill, about 3 minutes away. That’s where we found Amy, wearing a cute white tank top that read “Bride” in gold letters. She couldn’t have been nicer or more relaxed.  We met Jason, the event planner at the Inn.  With an easy smile and a can-do attitude, Jason was a delight to work with. We were informed that Amy and her attendants were preparing in the spa, on the third floor.  We breathed a huge sigh of relief when we opened the door to the blissful cool and calm in the spa.

Amy and Jeff wanted to do a wedding day first look. A wedding day first look is when the bride and groom see one another before the wedding ceremony. This is pre-arranged with the photographers, and is usually an intimate and private moment.

Amy and Jeff were really fun and game to roam the island for couples portraits. It’s so great when the wedding photography is important enough to have time built in for artistic and creative image-making. We knew of a path in a grove of trees, and then we drove to a secluded rocky beach. Amy, in her wedged sandals, was such a good sport. She was walking in the woods and climbing around on the rocks at the oceans’ edge. She was in safe hands with her soon-husband-to-be, not to worry. We later gathered the bridal party and had them walk down the middle of Island Avenue, and then down at the little beach jumping in the air as the bride and groom kissed  We went down to a sand beach and then had them walk down a long wooden pier.  All of this in the sweltering heat and nearly intolerable humidity.

We went back to the Inn so that the bridal party could freshen up before the ceremony. The gazebo was ready and guests were in place. The bride and groom said their “Ido’s” and we all retreated from the hot sun under the tent. Hors d’oeuvres were passed and ice cold drinks were sipped.  Everyone cooled off and breathed a sigh of relief.  The reception got into full swing.  Amy and Jeff had their first dance as husband and wife. There were speeches and toasts. And I have to say, Kristy Baker, sister of the bride and the Maid of Honor, gave one of the most heartfelt toasts I’ve ever heard. It was so genuine and full of emotion, I was just wowed.

The sun began to set and we spirited Amy and Jeff away one more time. The sky was so beautiful with warm oranges, yellows and reds, we just wanted one more opportunity for a parting shot. I think we nailed it. We love that, virtually while on the way to the airport for their honeymoon, Amy sent us an email that said: “Stunning pictures so far. WE ARE AMAZED.” THAT is our goal, as Peaks Island Maine wedding photographers, for each and every wedding we photograph.
